Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) has named James Stein its inaugural senior vice president and CMO, effective July 1. Stein, a pediatric surgeon, has been with CHLA since 1996. He is an associate professor of clinical surgery at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, has been vice-chair for the CHLA department of surgery, and interim chief of the division of pediatric surgery.

Stein is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Surgeons and the American Pediatric Surgical Association, and is on the California Children’s Hospital Association Quality Leaders.

Kindred Healthcare of Louisville, Kentucky has appointed Brian Holzer President of Kindred Innovations, a new position created for him. Holzer joins the company from Highmark Health, where he formed and presided over HM Home and Community Services (“HMHCS”). He has been a consultant, strategist, and held biotechnology sales and marketing positions. Holzer holds a medical degree from the Drexel School of Medicine and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Collective Health of San Francisco, California has named Adam Kovalevsky SVP of product development. Kovalevsky has spent more than 20 years in product and engineering, most recently as EVP of product and engineering operations at SAP SuccessFactors, but also at Oracle, PeopleSoft and eMeter Corporation.

DJO Global, Inc., of San Diego has appointed Jeffery McCaulley Global President of DJO Surgical. He succeeds Brady Shirley, who was promoted to President-CEO in November 2016. McCaulley joins the company from Smiths Medical, where he was President and CEO, and has been President of the Global Reconstructive Division at Zimmer, President and CEO of the Health Division of Wolters Kluwer, VP and GM of the Global Diabetes Business Unit at Medtronic, and President and CEO of GE Clinical Services.

Angela Alistar has been named medical director of medical oncology at Atlantic Health System Cancer Care of Morristown, New Jersey. Alistar is a translational research specialist, and joins Atlantic Health System from the Wake Forest School of Medicine, where she led the GI oncology team. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine, and the American Society of Hematology.

Advanced Health Media, LLC of New Providence, New Jersey promoted SVP and CFO Christine Croft to CEO. VP of Finance Frank Spender will assume Croft’s titles of SVP and CFO, and AHM founder-chairman Kevin McMurtry has been appointed executive chairman of the board of directors.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Chief Performance Measurement and Improvement Officer and SVP of Enterprise Analytics Dana Gelb Safran will serve on the MedPAC Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, a 17-member panel that helps shape national Medicare payment policies. Safran helped Blue Cross develop its alternative quality contract payment reform initiative.

NuVasive, Inc. of San Diego, California has named Skip Kiil its EVP of international operations. Kiil joins NuVasive from Alcon, where he was surgical head of Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia. His career includes 12 years with Stryker and a term as the GM of the Tokyo-based MedSurg Japan. Kiil holds an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Eli Lilly and Company EVP of Global Services and CFO Derica Rice will retire from the Indianapolis, Indiana-based company at the end of the year. Rice has spent 27 years with the company and is also a member of its executive committee. The company is considering internal and external candidates for his successor.

Welltower Inc. of Toledo, Ohio has named Mary Ellen Pisanelli its SVP of Legal and Administration. Pisanelli joins Welltower from Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, where she was a partner. She has also co-chaired Welltower’s REIT practice group. Pisanelli has an MA from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from Temple University School of Law.

ProSciento of San Diego, California has appointed Kelvin Logan, former President of Europe, Asia and Latin America at INC Research, to its Board of Directors.

Logan has spent more than 30 years in the pharmaceutical and clinical research industries, including as SVP and Senior Partner at Quintiles.

The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society of Rosemont, Illinois has named Elaine L. Leighton its next executive director. Leighton joined the society in 2012, and has been interim executive director since March 2017. She has an MPH from the University of Michigan and previously spent 17 years working for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons for 17 years.

Joseph Rossano has been named Chief of the Division of Cardiology of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Rossano is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at CHOP and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and has been Associate Chief of the Division of Cardiology, Executive Director of the Cardiac Center, and Medical Director of the Heart Transplantation Program and the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure Program.  He is a Core Faculty Member of the CHOP Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness and a Senior Fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Care Economics at Penn. Rossano joined the hospital in 2011.
