Biostage Inc. of Holliston, Massachusetts named Connecticut Children’s Medical Center President and CEO James Shmerling to its board of directors. Shmerling spent eight years as the CEO of Children’s Hospital Colorado, and was executive director and CEO of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt from 2002 to 2007. He is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE) and an adjunct faculty member in the hospital administration programs, University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Broward Health Imperial Point of Fort Lauderdale, Florida has named Jonathan E. Watkins its CEO. Watkins was most recently COO at Kaiser Foundation Hospitals & Health Plan, has been vice president of clinical operations and COO of Medical North Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and holds a master’s degree in public administration with a certification in health administration, as well as a bachelor’s degree in health care administration and planning from Tennessee State University.

Compassus of Brentwood, Tennessee named Brad Wear its CFO. Wear is a CPA who was most recently CFO for several health care companies, including US Anesthesia Partners; Carewise Health Inc.; I-trax/CHD Meridian (now Walgreens); Qualifacts Systems; Breathe America/DigiChart Inc.; and The Gambro Group.
Sunrise House Treatment Center and American Addiction Centers (AAC) of Lafayette, New Jersey named Stanley Frank its CEO. Frank has been CEO of multiple Acadia facilities in Arizona, Indiana, and Ohio, worked with United Health Services in the Philadelphia area, and was a mental health technician.
CareSource of Dayton, Ohio named Erhardt Preitauer its CEO, succeeding founding CEO Pamela Morris, who is retiring. Preitauer is CEO of Horizon NJ Health, and will join CareSource on May 1.
Canopy Health of Emeryville, California named Michael Sheils its CFO. Sheils was most recently vice president of financial shared services for Blue Shield of California, and held executive positions at UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Anthem Inc. and Aetna Health Inc.
Astellas of Northbrook, Illinois named Tatjana Dragovic, J.D. to head its ethics and compliance, succeeding the retiring Catherine Wertjes, J.D. Dragovic joined Astellas in 2007 as senior corporate attorney, was appointed to vice president of ethics and compliance for Astellas’ Americas region in June 2014, and added responsibility for the group’s operations globally in 2016.
Watercrest Senior Living of Vero Beach, Florida named Joe Germain as executive director of Pelican Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care; Jennifer Lopez as community relations director of Sage Park Assisted Living and Memory Care in Kissimmee, Florida, and Christine McGrath as community relations director of Market Street Memory Care Residence in Palm Coast, Florida.
Owens & Minor Inc. of Richmond, Virginia named Shana Neal its senior vice president and chief human resources officer, effective March 26, 2018. Neal was most recently senior vice president of human resources at Becton Dickinson.
The Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC) of Arlington, Virginia named Pamela Goldberg its president and CEO. Goldberg was formerly director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at Tufts University, from which she has a bachelor’s degree as well as a Stanford University MBA.
Bovie Medical Corporation of Clearwater, Florida named Scott R. Sanders its director of clinical education and market development. Sanders spent more than 16 years at Olympus Corporation and Gyrus ACMI, became group vice president of procedure and product development for Gyrus ACMI, and was executive director of clinical marketing of Olympus’s global surgical energy group. He spent 13 years at Pfizer Valleylab, and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with minors in chemistry, physics and math from the University of Denver.
The Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP) added Kevin James, vice president of payer strategy for US Bioservices, to its board of directors. James holds a pharmacy degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, an MBA from Lindenwood University. He is a member of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP), Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP), Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute (PBMI), and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy alumni association.
EmpiRx Health of Montvale, New Jersey named Karthik Ganesh its executive vice president and chief operating officer. Karthik was the founding operations leader of CareAllies, has been COO/CIO of QualCare, had leadership roles at Aetna and Express Scripts, and senior-level consulting roles at Deloitte and Capgemini E&Y.
Vascular Insights of Quincy, Massachusetts has named Lisa Gruttadauria its CFO. Gruttadauria spent 12 years in the medical device industry for early stage medical device companies. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.
